Six year average

Renewables projects can take several years to develop, so we think it’s also fair to present the average spend figures over the six years that WhichGreen figures have been compiled.

In the last six years, E.ON has spent an average of £4.48 per customer per year, closely followed EDF Energy with £4.98. The best of the Big Six, Scottish Power, has spent £25.79, still short of the minimum legally binding equivalent target of £30 per year from each customer’s electricity bill on new renewables. And the small independents including Good Energy and Green Energy have yet to spend anything at all across all six years.

By contrast, Ecotricity spent an average £387.93 in each of the last six years for each of its customers on new renewables –that’s over ten times its minimum obligation, and more than ten times the spend of any other energy company.

The big energy companies talk a lot about ‘future investment’ and ‘commitment to a greener Britain’, but after six years, these figures would seem to suggest otherwise – but compare the numbers for yourself and draw your own verdict.
