2009 League Table
WhichGreen is designed to help you choose the best green supplier you can, so you have the best chance of making a positive difference with your electricity bill.
Some energy companies are much bigger than others, so we believe the fairest way to measure a supplier's green credentials is to compare how much new build they have developed per customer. New generation is based upon the Ofgem commission date of the renewable energy project.
There’s no denying 2009 was a tough year for new investment, due not least in large part to the global recession. As a result, this year the average spend of all electricity companies (excluding Ecotricity) was £12.39 per customer, less than half the previous year’s figure.
Ecotricity still comes top of the table for the sixth year running with a spend per customer of £76.88, continuing a level of commitment for building new sources of green energy that no other supplier comes close to matching.
